Riot's System Tray/Menu Bar Launch

Since Riot is now a multi-game company, we want to make it easier for you to find and play our games. With the new system tray/menu bar, you’ll now be able to see a list of all Riot games and have the option to quickly navigate between games and utilities in one convenient location. While you can expect more updates and features for this new addition soon, we wanted to address your most pressing questions first!

So, what is it?

This new feature allows you to quickly launch and install any of our titles from the system tray on Windows or the menu bar on Mac, where it's represented as a Riot icon.

How did it get there?

The system tray launches when you launch any Riot titles, and it shuts down when all Riot games are shut down as well.

Is this replacing or modifying any of my existing Riot software?

Not at all! The system tray is simply a quality of life addition that will not affect your installed Riot products. It will, however, make it easier to launch, update, or install any Riot game.

Does this mean my Riot games will update in the background when I'm not playing them?

Nope! Currently, updates will only install when you attempt to launch a game for which a newer version is available. You can then let the update continue, or close the game if you'd like to update at a later time. That being said, we're working hard to make automatic background updates an option in the future, so stay tuned!

There are some Riot games listed in the menu that I’m not really interested in playing. How do I get rid of them?

The Riot system tray currently shows all of Riot’s publicly available products, along with any products Riot is working on that you may be entitled to (such as early access betas and alphas). At this time there is no way to hide uninstalled public products.

How do I get rid of the system tray/menu bar icon?

The system tray automatically closes when all Riot games are closed. It's part of running any of Riot’s products, and as such will also go away if all Riot games are uninstalled from your computer.
