When a mysterious mountain brings chaos to the Convergence, it’s up to you and Ao Shin to use both brain and (acquired) brawn to overcome any obstacle the Mountain throws your way.
Ao Shin’s Ascent, the new limited-time PVE mode, comes to Teamfight Tactics during Patches 15.5 and 15.6.
Ao Shin's Ascent Game Mode
Ao Shin's Ascent is a PVE progression-based game mode where you’ll summit the Mountain to free your Little Legend friends from a mysterious and shadowy force. The path to the top won’t be a straight one as you progress through increasingly difficulty Zones, each with its own challenges.
Zone | Details |
Approach | 1-cost Boss No Modifiers 1 Celestial Challenge |
Slope | 2-cost Boss No Modifiers 2 Celestial Challenges |
Crest | 3-cost Boss with 1 Modifier 2 Celestial Challenge |
Crux | 4-cost Boss with 1 Modifier 3 Celestial Challenges |
Summit | 5-cost Boss with 2 Modifiers 3 Celestial Challenges |
Each run consists of three total stages, giving you an opportunity to power up and prepare before facing the Boss. Starting at the Crest, Bosses are also equipped with at least 1 Modifier that dramatically impact your run. You select your Boss and Modifier(s) at round 1-2 in each run.
You’ll also select Celestial Challenges at certain rounds that buff the enemy board. Don’t worry, you’ll receive a gold payout for the trouble (gold output varies depending on which Celestial Challenge you choose)!
Modifier | Details |
Starcursed | Certain hexes on the board become Starcursed, and any allied units that start combat on a Starcursed hex take continuous damage during combat. |
Explosive | Enemy units explode on death, dealing magic damage to your units within a 1-hex radius. |
Void | The enemy periodically places an immovable Void Egg on your board. Shortly after combat begins, voidlings hatch from the eggs that taunt nearby allies. |
Physical | All damage dealt by enemy units becomes physical damage instead, and enemy units gain Damage Amp. |
Fortified | The enemy team starts combat with increased Durability, which decreases over time. |
Hellion | When an enemy unit dies, it spawns a 1-star less copy of itself. |
Committed | On rounds 1-2, 2-2, and 3-3, the enemy adds a permanent unit to your board that can't be benched or sold. |
Restart |
After the first boss encounter, all units on your board are automatically sold for their total value. |
Extortionist | Rocks are placed that block your bench slots You can remove a rock to reacquire a bench slot by selling it in the store; however, doing so costs Gold instead of earning it. |
Subtractor |
The shop only displays four units for the rest of the game. |
Cheering | Enemy units heal every 2 seconds. When an enemy unit dies, it runs to the sideline and cheers on its allies. The amount of healing increases with each cheering ally. |
Free Will |
You can't pick their Celestial Challenges or augments. |
Guides
It’d be dangerous to go alone, so take a Guide! Guides are familiar champions that bring all new abilities to aid your ascent. Progress through your Journey Track to earn more Guides and upgrade your Guides’ abilities.
There are a total of 12 Guides for you to discover on your own, plus 2 more available in our Bundles.
Guide | Details |
Pantheon | Start the game with a Skyfall marker. 5 seconds after the combat starts, Pantheon jumps to the marker dealing damage to enemies, and shielding ally units.
|
Zoe | At the start of the Planning Phase, Zoe might find loot scattered around!
|
Soraka | Soraka’s Guardian joins your team, and becomes empowered at level 6. Soraka also heals your team during combat!
|
Teemo | Teemo increases your team's size (+1), 3 and 4-cost champions no longer appear in the store, and 5-cost champions appear earlier in the game!
|
Truth Dragon Yasuo | Truth Dragon Yasuo joins your team. At stages 2-2 and 3-2, choose a Dragon Spirit to empower Yasuo! |
Battle Queen Gwen | After some victories, Battle Queen Gwen grants you items from the current and/or previous Sets! |
Lives
Lose a round, and Ao Shin bends time to let you retry that battle and provides extra loot to help you out! You’ll start with 2 lives, but can earn more as well as more powerful upgrades upon losing lives through your Journey Track.
Journey Track
Every win and loss on the Mountain adds more experience to your Journey Track. This 80-milestone reward track keeps track of your progression run-over-run, giving you powerful upgrades to augment your climb.
All 80 rewards on the Journey Track can be unlocked simply by playing Ao Shin’s Ascent. There are no Journey Track rewards that require RP to unlock; however, just like the Set Pass, you will have the option to purchase Journey Track levels (these cost 65 RP/TFT Coins instead). Take a peek at what you stand to earn!
- Journey Track rewards grant temporary content, valid until the event ends
- Journey Track progression is separate from K.O. Coliseum: Part II
- Journey Track level purchases are not refundable

Journey Track Progression
For Ao Shin's Ascent, here’s a sneak peek of some missions you can clear to earn juicy rewards:
Mission | Reward |
Approach Cleared | 100 Star Shards 500 Journey Track XP |
Slope Cleared | 100 Realm Crystals 750 Journey Track XP |
Crest Cleared | 100 Realm Crystals 1000 Journey Track XP |
Crux Cleared | 100 Treasure Tokens 1500 Journey Track XP |
Summit Cleared | Angry Ao Shin Emote 200 Realm Crystals |

In addition, you earn Journey Track XP with each run and by performing specific actions in-game. You can regularly earn Journey Track XP each run through sources such as:
- Winning a combat round
- Defeating a Boss
- Winning a run (earn more Journey Track XP, the more Lives you have left over)
- Achieving a Perfect Run (that is, clearing a run without losing any Lives)
Huh? You want more? No problem! In addition to the Journey Track XP you earn for in-game actions, Ao Shin's Ascent also has a Hard Fought bonus that grants you an XP multiplier based on your current progression and the Zones you've reached. In simple terms, you’ll receive this bonus for facing challenging runs. However, if you run through a Zone with a difficulty lower than your current progression, you won’t receive any bonus Journey Track XP.
Last but not least, there are special missions you can complete, regardless of the Zone you play in:
Mission | Conditions | Reward |
Journey Start | Play a match of Ao Shin's Ascent
| 1000 XP |
3-Stars Made | 3-star a unit
| 20 XP each time |
Close Call | Win a combat round with 2 or less units alive | 10 XP each time |
Trait Master | At the start of a combat round, have at least 8 active traits
| 50 XP |
Interest Earned | Earn Gold through the Interest bonus | 3 XP per Gold earned |
Near Victory | Face the Boss at Stage 3-6, but fail to defeat it | Half the XP value for the round (based on the played Zone) |
