VAN 9005 appears when your system does not meet the security requirements needed for Vanguard to run. This can happen if your device does not support UEFI Mode or TPM 2.0, if those features are disabled, or if Virtualization based security (VBS) is interfering. This guide will walk you through how to check your system, enable the required features, or adjust your settings so you can launch the game again.
Check if your system supports UEFI Mode and TPM 2.0
Your PC must support both UEFI Mode and TPM 2.0 to meet Vanguard’s security requirements. If your system supports UEFI Mode and TPM 2.0 but they are not enabled, you will need to update your BIOS settings. These changes vary depending on your hardware manufacturer, so we recommend following the detailed instructions in our dedicated setup guides:
Once both features are enabled, restart your PC and try launching the game again.
Disable VBS (Virtualization Based Security)
If your system does not support UEFI Mode or TPM 2.0, you can disable VBS as an alternative to continue playing.
Check whether VBS is enabled
- Press Windows + R to open the Windows Run box.
- Search for msinfo32.
- Press Enter to open System Information.
- Scroll the right panel and look for Virtualization based security.
- If it says Running, VBS is enabled.
Disable VBS
- Press Windows + R to open the Windows Run box.
- Type cmd to open Command Prompt and Run it as Administrator
-
Enter the following command:
bcdedit /set hypervisorlaunchtype off
- Restart your computer.
- Open msinfo32 again and confirm that Virtualization based security is Not Running.
If VBS is still running
You may also need to disable Core isolation (HVCI):
- Open the Windows Start menu and search for Core isolation.
- Press Enter to open Device security settings.
- Toggle Memory integrity to Off.
- Restart your computer.
Note: If you do not see Memory Integrity, you may need to enable hardware virtualization in your BIOS.
After either enabling TPM 2.0 or disabling VBS, try launching your game again to confirm the issue is resolved.
