Error VAN 9002

If you see Error Code VAN 9002 when trying to log into our games, it usually means Windows Exploit Protection is disabled. Vanguard requires Exploit Protection to be turned on for the game to run. 

Follow the steps below to re-enable it and get back in the game!

Open Exploit Protection settings

  1. Press Windows + R to open the Windows Run box.
  2. Type exploit protection into the search bar.
  3. Select Exploit protection from the results to open the Windows Security settings.

Check your System settings

In the System settings tab, you will see several security features. Make sure each of the following is set to Use default:

  • Control flow guard (CFG)
  • Data Execution Prevention (DEP)
  • Force randomization for images (Mandatory ASLR)
  • Randomized memory allocation (Bottom up ASLR)
  • High entropy ASLR
  • Validate exception chains (SEHOP)
  • Validate heap integrity

Note: You may need to scroll down to see all available settings.

When you change any setting, Windows will display a message: This change requires you to restart your device. Do not restart yet.

Check your Program settings

  1. Go to the Program settings tab.
  2. Scroll through the list of applications with custom settings.
  3. Look for any entries related to:
    • Riot Games
    • Riot Vanguard
    • Any Riot titles
  4. Click the entry to expand it.
  5. Select Remove.
  6. Repeat this process for every Riot related entry in the list.

Restart your device

Once all changes have been made, restart your PC to apply the updated Exploit Protection settings.
