This can happen due to:

  • Corrupted game files
  • Incomplete or outdated installations
  • Driver issues
  • Background programs interfering with the game

Below are some steps that can help resolve the issue.

Disabling DevOverrideEnable in Windows Registry

Important

Editing the Windows Registry can cause system instability if done incorrectly. Please follow these exact instructions and only modify the specified values. If you are uncomfortable doing this, we recommend asking a computer professional for help before proceeding.

Vanguard requires DevOverrideEnable to be disabled as this setting can interfere with system integrity checks and may prevent the Riot Client from installing, updating, or launching games.

Follow the steps of this article to ensure DevOverrideEnable is set to 0 in your Windows Registry: Deactivating DevOverrideEnable in Windows Registry Editor

Perform Clean Boot

Clearing up background processes can ensure other programs aren't fighting for the spotlight against your game.

Add exceptions in your Firewall

Check out our Connection Troubleshooting Guide (PC) article for detailed steps on how to provide exceptions for the game and the Riot Client.

If you're running a third-party antivirus, temporarily disable them to see if the issue persists.
